One of the greatest achievement for the prince of Kolkata Sourav Ganguly is he is the one who has managed to take the team to the final of 2003 world cup, ICC world cup 2003 termed as the world cup of upsets as in that world cup teams like Zimbabwe and Kenya managed to get into the super six round but heavyweights like Pakistan, South Africa, West Indies, and England got eliminated on the first round, even the Kenya team managed to get in the Semi-Finals as well in the world cup stage.

In the Semi-Final Indian Skipper, Sourav Ganguly played a brilliant knock of 11 runs and with that score, he became the first Indian skipper to score hundred in a knockout round of world cup, and Indian bowlers managed to send all the Kenya batsman within 179 runs and India got a mammoth victory of 91 runs against them.

In that match for his outstanding performance, Sourav Ganguly named the man of the match award and it was his third century in the stage of the world cup.

Till the 2015 world cup, the record of Sourav Ganguly was intact in as an Indian batsman to score a triple-figure run in the world cup knockout stage, and after 12 years the Mumbai based opener Rohit Sharma also played a formidable inning in the world cup knockout stage against Bangladesh where he struck a wonderful 137 runs innings, and in that match team, India defeated the team by 109 runs, in the 2015 world cup Bangladesh is having their dream run in the tournament but again it was ended by team India.

In the 2003 world under the captaincy of the Sourav Ganguly team, India reached the final where they faced a defeat against the champion Australia and also in the 2015 world cup in the Semifinals team India faced a defeat against the Host country Australia.

After the world cup also Sourav Ganguly also led the Indian team in many other crucial tournaments and got success, now after retiring from cricket Sourav Ganguly is the current president of the Board of control for cricket in India.
